[edit] Faculties

Kiama High School is divided into several faculties for education, these being, English, Mathematics, Science, Art, Music, History, Geography and Social Sciences, PD/H/PE, Industrial Arts and Home Economics.

Each faculty is presided over by a Head Teacher, and they are responsible for any matters relating to their area of study. Any problems endevered by any student or teacher within a faculty should consult their appropriate faculty Head Teacher. The worst teacher is Miss Fairweather.

[edit] Student Representative Council

A Student Representative Council, also known as the KHS SRC, embeds itself within the school community and is involved in numerous charity campaigns and school events.

The SRC hold elections for each grade during the second semester of the school year. A member elects to campaign for a position on the Council and must also have a recommendation from a fellow peer and teacher. Generally four to six students are elected from each year, with a gender equal ratio. These students represent their grade for the third and fourth semesters until the first and second semesters of the following year. It should be noted that elections may be suspended until third semester occasionally.

Year Eleven students elect to vote for a male and female Captain, a male and female Vice Captain and two more students, a male and female, to fill the positions of Secretary and Treasurer. These students form the Executive Committee which is chaired by the Principle of Kiama High School, presided over by the Deputy Principles and also the SRC Head Teacher. These students not only lead their grade into Year Twelve, but also their fellow peers of the lower grades into the new year.

Year Seven initially has no representation on the Student Representative Council until the mid year elections.

The SRC has proven to be a well liked group of people by their peers as many "fun" activities are organised, funded and rallied for by the Council. The KHS SRC of 2005 were noted for their success in adopting a child from Mozambique and funding his community through donations raised by the school community. The KHS SRC also manages to raise numerous amounts of money for Canteen, a support network for teens with cancer, Pink Ribbon Day, Daffodil Day and many more. The SRC also organises events such as "Out of Uniform Day" and "Icee Day" as well as the popular "Krispy Kreme Day".
