Khottabych (Russian: Хоттабыч) - a 2006 Russian comedy folk-tale by STV channel, a remake of the 1956 USSR film Starik Khottabych. Has nothing in common with the first film, except for some important ideas. More precisely the film has a screen name K}{OTT@B\)CH (Russian: }{0ТТ@БЬ)Ч), to depict an internet-styling features of the film. Novel - Copper Jar of Starik Khottabych by Sergey Oblomov. Screenplay by Peter Tochilin, Veronika Voznyak.

Teenager Gena is a "hacker" switched on the computers and the Internet. Once he bought an ancient jar from Internet-auction and found a genie sitting in it. First, the genie, named Hottabych by Gena, printed a huge number of $100 banknotes on the Egyptian papyrus and set off to a preparations for a Gena's dating with a girl-hacker Anny from USA. But the evil Shaitanych is also hunting for the jar. Gena is also wanted by Interpol for the deface of Microsoft web-site.

Gena already used his three wishes and Hottabych desides to become a mortal men. But something impedes him from doing this and Hottabych returns to the jar, which is now taken by Shaitanych. To save the world from "total crisis" Gena translates the genetic code of Hottabych into binary and releases it to the Internet. There will the final battle with Shaitanych take place.

  • The car used by the main characters is the modified Pobeda M20. It was sold from the Internet auction Molotok.ru for $10,000.
  • Off screen voice is Dmitry Puchkov known as Goblin.
  • Filmed at Russian State Genetic Scientific Research Institute. Device used by Gena is really used in the process of DNA analysis.
  • In the episode shot at the Red Square it was closed by the crowd dressed as Russian Militia officers to prevent strangers from entering the screen field.
  • In the episode of Gena beating by Militia officers one of them missed Gena's protective wear and hit actor with all the might.
