[edit] Owners

Former owners: Tsar Fyodor Alekseyevich, boyar Bogdan Matveevich Khitrovo and the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra.

After the nationalisation of Troitse-Sergiev library the Khitrovo Gospel was incorporated in the holdings of the Russian State Library in Moscow.

[edit] Images in the book

The book shows pictures of evangelists and evangelists' symbols - an eagle, an angel, a lion, a bull.

Earlier no symbols of the evangelists were ever depicted on separate sheets in Russian manuscripts. For this reason the book constitutes an iconographic peculiarity.
