Members of this community are spread widely in northern and western India and identify themselves with similar communities such as the Ramgarhia and Dhiman of the Vishwakarma clan. This community is associated with engineering. The members of this community are spread in various districts of Ferozepur and Faridkot (Punjab), Sirsa and Hissar (Haryana), Sriganganagar, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaipur (Rajasthan), Surat and Ahmadabad (Gujrat) and Mumbai (Maharashtra). In the Punjab they identify themselves, to some extent with Ramgarhia, in Haryana with Khati, in Rajasthan with Khati, and in Gurjrat and Maharashtra again with Khati and Kurmi.
They are people who for generations have been associated with engineering (wood and iron), building and construction.

In Most parts of India “JANGID” term is widely used to identify Suthar, where as the term, Jangid Brahman, Khaati, Venayak, Tirkhan, Barrahi, and wide range of other local term names are popularly used. Jangid community is from race of Rishi Angiraji, Shri Vishvkarmaji Maharaj.

SUTHAR was the son of RISHI VISHWAKARAMA so we are a pure Brahamans. So we are free to use SHARMA as a surname.

Our ancient history begins from Brahma ji itself. According to Vedas and Purans we were the first manavs(human) from which rest of manavs were developed. There were seven manas(Human) sons from God Brahma which are called Saptarishi. There names are Marichi, Atri, Angira, Pulastya, Pulah, Kutu & Vashishtha. These all were well experts in Vedas. There was Brahmarishi Angira on the top of among sons. According the Founders of sciences in Ancient India --Brahmarishi Angira first discovered the fire, when there was no alternate of light & heat except Sun. Brahmarishi Angira was married with Daksha putri Smriti. He won the earth in war and ruled on the post of Indra. Due to being unbeatable commander he gain the name "Jangid Rishi". Also According to AtharvaVeda, Angira is Jangid. Maharishi Angira was married with two Prachetas Daksha Prajapati daughters named as Sati & Swadha.
