Khaptad is a national park in nepal and the area stretches over four districts of far western nepal bajhang, bajura, achham and doti.It covers an area of over 300 sq kms and the maximum altitude is 3300 m.
It is famous for plain and shallow valleys, known as patan in local language ,which are 22 in number. The area is rich in ecological diversity, with a well protected forest area featuring wild animals in the likes of bear, boar, leopards, wolves, ghorals(himalayan deer),assamese monkey among others. There is a lake on the western side, the ashram of late sri 1008 Khaptad Baba on the centre, sahastra linga on south and nagdhunga to the east. The area is guarded by Nepalese Army.
Khaptad can be reached from any of the four district headquarters, but from trekking point of view,a trail from Silgadhi(doti) is the best one with the night stay in Jhingrana,2 nights stay in khaptad valleys and a round trek via bajhang ,a challenging descent is completed. The best season to visit is rainy with no snow and the nature unleashing herself in bounties.Otherwise a late winter trip is fascinating in the sense of snow clad trails and joy of basking walking in the sun.
Lodging and fooding is facilitated by the army and the national park employees.
