[edit] History
KGMC signed on the air in the mid-1980s as a regular independent station until 1995, when it joined The WB. It was also during that time that KMPH took over sales and programming for the station. But by 1997 KGMC ended the agreement and in the process dropped The WB in favor of infomercials 24/7, and joining America's Store several years later. Today, KGMC is the only independent full power TV station out of the 12 stations operating in the Fresno TV Market.
Channel 43 first operated in the Fresno/Visalia area as independent KICU-TV. The station went on the air in December 1961, only days after Fresno's first independent, KAIL, channel 53 (now My Network TV) took to the air. Channel 43 offered movies and other independent fare. Toward the end of its run, KICU also picked up some NBC programming not aired by that network's primary affiliate, KMJ-TV (now KSEE-TV). KICU-TV left the air in 1968 and the channel remained dark until KGMC-TV went on the air. The KICU-TV call letters are now used for an independent station in San Jose.
KGMC offers a rebroadcast of KGPE CBS 47 news at 6 PM at 9 PM weeknights.
A live simulcast of KGMC's programming can now be seen on the Cocola Broadcasting homepage.
