[edit] History
KFDM was started by Magnolia Petroleum Company as KFDM radio. It was created to provide entertainment and information for the refinery workers. It was founded in 1955 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2005.
The station's call letters stand for the slogan for the oil company's brand of gasoline: "Kall For Dependable Magdalene". The fact that the calls resemble its current owner, Freedom Communications, is merely a coincidence.
KFDM was awarded in 2005 by the Texas chapter of the Associated Press for their coverage of Hurricane Rita
Current KFDM Manager, Larry Beaulieu has been with the station since 1974 when he was hired as News Director. He teamed for over 15 years with Cecile Burandt, who was the first female anchor hired in the Beaumont area.
