Keyworth

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Keyworth is a village in Nottinghamshire about 10 km southeast of the centre of Nottingham in the East Midlands of England.

The population has remained fairly stable over recent years at around 7,500. The village possesses a full range of local facilities including a health centre, post office, Parish Council Hall, churches, nursery school and primary schools. For daily requirements there are shops in the centre of the village including a general store, supermarkets, newsagents, butcher, chemist, hairdressers, banks, estate agent, pubs, restaurants, take-aways and a garage/petrol station. There are also playing fields, which offer outdoor sports facilities and a leisure centre with a swimming pool. A frequent bus service to Nottingham is also available.

The playing fields behind St Mary Magdalene Church are on the site of an ancient medieval ridge and furrow system. This sometimes makes running a rather precarious business for the outfielders of Keyworth Cricket Club who play their home matches on this field. In the season 2006 Keyworth Cricket Club players created league records for the most runs in a season, the most centuries in a season and also had the leagues all time wicket taker. Rob Baker, it was the most successful season in the history of the club, which dates back to 1814. Keyworth is also home to the headquarters of the British Geological Survey which is located on Nicker Hill on the North-East side of the village.

Keyworth is twinned with the French village of Feignies, near Dan.
