The keyhole cichlid, Cleithracara maronii, is a cichlid native to tropical South America, the only species in the genus Cleithracara. It is a small ovate-bodied fish. It is a omnivore, but primarily feeds on invertebrates. It is a biparentally custodial breeder which spawns on flattened rocks, logs or leaves.
In the Aquarium
- Size: 30cm in the wild, but it dosen't usually grow to this in the aquarium. They usually grow to 10-15cm.
- Care: Easy
- Temperament: Peaceful
- Food: Omnivorous; Flakes, pellets, live foods and frozen foods.
- Tank level: Middle-Bottom
- Qty: They are usually happy in pairs.
- Breeding: Egg layer: put fine gravel or sand in the tank, to allow the pair to burry their eggs.
