Kexi is an integrated data management application. It can be used for designing and implementing databases, data inserting and processing, and performing queries. Kexi can connect to different database servers such as PostgreSQL and MySQL.

It can also work without a server, by utilizing builtin SQLite database engine, allowing users to store data and design in a single file. Forms can be created to provide a custom interface to your data. Simple reports can be printed or previewed. Scripting using Python and Ruby is available as well as application macros, similar to those in Microsoft Access (in experimental stage). All database objects - tables, queries, forms, etc. - are stored in the database, making it easy to share data and design as simple as sharing single file.

Kexi is positioned to fill the gap between spreadsheets and database solutions requiring more sophisticated development.

The idea of this development came because of a noticeable lack of applications having the features of Microsoft Access, FoxPro, Oracle Forms or FileMaker, but which are powerful enough, inexpensive, open standards driven and highly portable between many operating systems and hardware platforms.

Kexi is a member of the KDE Desktop Environment and KOffice suite. It works under Linux/Unix, Mac OS X (using Fink), Solaris, and Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Kexi 2.0 (currently in development) will be a product developed using Qt4 and KDE4.
