[edit] Wiktionary:Transwiki log
Ahh, good, that'll be much easier for wiktionary to handle. By the way, it's fine with me if I take on all of the transwikis fulltime as I've been doing; if I do it every or every other day it's only five to ten a day, not a big deal. Thanks for your work! --Dmcdevit 21:47, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Awesome! Just wondering if the bot could put the entries into the WP and Wiktionary Tnaswiki logs automatically? Also, could it be made to do other transwikis (wikisource, wikiquote, wikibooks, wikinews, etc.), or would that just be like quadupling your work? Also, it's not a big deal but there's also that listing it twice if it uses the redirected template. But, anyway, none of these are big deals. Thanks a ton! --Dmcdevit 23:01, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- And another minor suggestion I just remembered that when a marked article has quotes in the title, the page source doesn't show up. I've had to manually move them getting rid of the quotes first, then transwiki. Don't know what you could do 'bout that. Also, I've got May testing soon, so I'm *trying* to resist Wikipedia also. Trying... --Dmcdevit 02:14, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Hey, I just realized: if you are still making that newer bot, it should put in {{subst:Transwikied to Wiktionary}}, as the amount of template use weighs down the server. Thanks, and I don't mean to be demanding or anything. --Dmcdevit 09:46, 23 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Hockey
Thanks for the headsup on the defenceman thing, Kevin - I was wondering at the time why there wasn't already one. I've not merged pages before, but once I get some time I'll have a go at it. Kraigus 23:28, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)
[edit] VFD
Hi, I removed Barefoot and pregnant from VFD a few hours ago, since I was trying to get permission from some people to use pics, and thought its listing there might discourage them. Now that I have obtained permission, you can relist it if you feel that is appropriate. Thanks, CarsonDailyCity 01:54, 4 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] WP:TL
I'm trying to remodel the Transwiki log to make it more friendly to editors who want to go through and resolve all of those old dicdefs that hang around even after transwikification. Can you take a look at it and see what you think or if you can make it any better? Thanks! --Dmcdevit 04:25, 4 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Hello
Hey, Kevin. I just joined Wikipedia myself and noticed that you were also a member. It seems like you've made quite a few contributions to the site as well. Good luck with all your work. Cswrye 23:37, Jun 2, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Proposed "Neighborhoods of Nashville" project
Is the "neighborhoods of Nashville" an area worth pursuing? There are already articles on the big suburbs (Antioch, Bellevue, Donelson, Green Hills, Hermitage, etc.), so I am talking more about Inglewood, Belleshire, Joelton, Whites Creek, the Nations, etc. I am running this past you and several other Nashville-knowledgable types before starting as I have neither the time nor the inclination to do it entirely on my own. Comments? Rlquall 03:38, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Shelby Street Bridge
Nice work on the Shelby Street Bridge article. I have no idea where you found that much information about it :) Kaldari 17:23, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)
[edit] lots of edits, not an admin
Hi - I made a list of users who've been around long enough to have made lots of edits but aren't admins. If you're at all interested in becoming an admin, can you please add an '*' immediately before your name in this list? I've suggested folks nominating someone might want to puruse this list, although there is certainly no guarantee anyone will ever look at it. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 17:01, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Nashville sit-ins nominated
I've nominated Nashville sit-ins for the U.S. Southern Collaboration of the Week. If you think it's a worthy topic, stop by and vote for it. Thanks. Kaldari 02:06, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)
[edit] WikiSweet code
I'm glad to see your edits picking up, I'm sure many people would welcome you back. I don't know if your WP email is still current, I sent you an email a few days ago. In any case, since I've been using your (great!) transwiki bot for a while now, I was wondering if you'd be willing to send me the code. I'm trying to see if AllyUnion can make a similar bot for the other projects, not just Wiktionary, and that would make it much easier. Thanks for the help and I'd appreciate any help you can give. --Dmcdevit 29 June 2005 01:07 (UTC)
- This has become particularly more urgent with the new software update, which seems to have broken the bot's ability to transfer the history. The backlog is growing again... Help appreciated. --Dmcdevit 2 July 2005 00:04 (UTC)
[edit] KevinBot
Someone just threw the big Decapitalization switch at Wiktionary. All of a sudden, lots of articles are at the wrong title, and at the very least need redirects. The skills of the 'bot writers are probably needed. Uncle G June 29, 2005 21:56 (UTC)
[edit] Help desk wikiproject
I have created a new Wikiproject which aims to bring computer veterans and people who need help with software tools they use on Wikipedia together. I'm writing this to you because I saw you on the bot list and wanted to know if you would be willing to help. There is already an open case: WikiProject help desk/20050702 Dmcdevit. The Windows tool that Dmcdevit uses to perform Transwikis has broken since the software upgrade. Triddle July 6, 2005 22:30 (UTC)
- Oh, cool! Thanks! I have a feeling that the rather bad dicdefs Wikipedia creates have never really been much of a priority on Wiktionary. But I think we transwiki more for Wikipedia than for Wiktionary, anyway. It's a necessary step in getting a dicdef deleted. And (as long as there is a bot) it's not that much trouble and worth the effort in case Wiktionary ever decides to take that list piling up full on (with Wikipedia's greater exposure, I imagine there's probably quite a few unique ones there). But I do have a feeling the other projects, where transwiki is a much more sure (in terms of wanting our castoffs) bet, would benefit even more from a bot like this. How difficult would it be to allow transwikis to all the other projects? --Dmcdevit July 7, 2005 04:34 (UTC)
- Hi Kevin, thanks for offering to rewrite the software. If possible I think it would be beneficial for the source code to the tool to be available. That way in the future someone else won't have to start over from scratch on a solution if something breaks again. I suggest that the code be attached to the case at WikiProject help desk/20050702 Dmcdevit. Thanks again! Triddle July 7, 2005 22:13 (UTC)

[edit] List of current NHL players
It just seems very out of place to put that page under your own user section.SD6-Agent 03:36, 23 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Bot and other things
Kevin, are you still around? Just checking if you or your bot is still in operation. --AllyUnion (talk) 07:37, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
- I'm just barely around. I occasionally make edits here and there, but I'm not very active anymore. My bots don't work anymore either (probably), and I don't have the time (or inclination really) to make it work.
- But, I'm the kind of person who gets bored with stuff and then goes back to it eventually, so I might do that. But I'll never write another bot unless a bot friendly interface for wikimedia is written because they'd make changes to Wikimedia and then suddenly my bot didn't work anymore, and that got frustrating. [edit] User categorization
Greetings, Kevin Rector! Please accept this message as an invitation to categorize your user page in the category Category:Wikipedians in Tennessee and removing your name from the Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Tennessee page. Even if you do not wish to be placed in a category, could you take a moment to remove your name from the Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Tennessee page? Thanks!!
[edit] Bots?
Hi Kevin, I have a simple question. What is a bot and what are they used for and what language(s) can they be written in?
Thanks
To add your name to the category, please use the tag [[Category:Wikipedians in Tennessee|Kevin Rector]] to ensure proper sorting.

[edit] List of Nashville Predators players
Sorry about messing with that article (twice). I wasn't sure if you were still around and I was going to conform it to the rest of the player lists. I see, though, that you are still around, so I will leave the Predators alone. As you have probably noticed, I haven't been adding the link to hockeydb when I add new players to the main list of players. That is mostly out of laziness. I had a plan in the back of my head to update that list (which I have been doing and I noticed that you are too) and then after I have gone through all 30 teams (I am about half way done), I was going to go back and add the links to hockeydb. Having that link right beside the player is such a wonderful and useful idea. Masterhatch 15:10, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Your adminship at Wiktionary
Hello! As one of your fellow admin at English Wiktionary, I would like to kindly ask if you would like to keep or give up your adminship at Wiktionary while you have not made any edits or admin's actions since June 2005.--Jusjih 23:05, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- Or, of course, come back to editing there and help us create a free, online Wiki dictionary once again. :). —Celestianpower háblame 07:57, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
