Kevin Ward

Kevin Ward (1963) is an American police officer and politician from the the US state of Oklahoma. Ward is the current Secretary of Safety and Security and Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety.
Ward began his law enforcement career in 1979 at the Bethany, Oklahoma Police Department. He joined the Department of Public Safety in 1980 serving on the Governor’s Mansion Security before his appointment the Oklahoma Highway Patrol in 1985. Ward moved through the ranks of the Patrol and on October 20, 2003, Governor Brad Henry appointed him the Interim Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety following the resignation of Commissioner Bob Ricks.
Governor Henry wound appoint Ward as the Commissioner in 2004. As the Commissioner, Ward provides safety and security for Oklahoma’s citizens through law enforcement and protection agencies. Ward was also appoint by Governor Henry to serve as his Secretary of Public Safety, and is thus Henry's main arm of control over the entire Cabinet Department. The Secretary postion allows Ward to oversee the State's correction penitentiaries, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
