From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kevin O'Donnell, Jr. (b. November 29, 1950, Cleveland, Ohio) is an American science fiction writer. He has been nominated for several Nebula awards. [1]

He is the son of Kevin O'Donnell, who served was director of Peace Corps in 1971-2.[2]

He has been published since he graduated from Yale University in 1972. Periodicals ranging from Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine to OMNI. have printed more than seventy of his shorter works. A number have also been anthologized, both in the United States and overseas.

A member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, he has published ten books in America, and has been reprinted in Britain, France, Israel, the Netherlands, Spain, and Germany.

In February of 1987, the French translation of his 1984 novel ORA:CLE received the 1987 Prix Litteraire Mannesmann Tally.

His last novel, Fire on the Border, appeared from Roc Books (an imprint of NAL/Penguin) in September, 1990.

He served as chairman of the Nebula Award Novel Jury of the Science Fiction Writers of America (SFWA) in 1990 and 1991. He chaired SFWA's Nebula Award Committee from 1990 until July, 1998, and acted as Business Manager of SFWA's quarterly publication, the Bulletin, from October 1994 until July 1998. On and off in the late '90s, he helped maintain SFWA's Web site, http://www.sfwa.org. In August of 1999, he was appointed Chairman of SFWA's Grievance Committee; he will retire from that position on August 15, 2005. On April 30, 2005, he will receive the Service to SFWA Award at SFWA's annual Nebula(tm) Banquet.

The Lunar Resources Company, Inc. appointed him to its Board of Directors in November 1994; he became TLRC's Acting Business Manager in January of 1998. Due to then-poor health and the press of other work, he left TLRC in October 1999.

In his spare time, O'Donnell reads, putters in his garden, rewrites computer programs, bicycles, bowls, and goes dancing with his wife Kim.
