Kevin Bowyer (born 1961 in Southend-on-Sea) is an English organist, known for his prolific recording career and his interest in playing unusual, modern and difficult compositions.
Bowyer attended Cecil Jones High School in Southend, before going on to train at the Royal Academy of Music under Christopher Bowers-Broadbent, Virginia Black, Paul Steinitz and Douglas Hawkridge, and later studied with David Sanger. He has performed and broadcast all over the world, and has released around 90 recordings, including all of Bach's organ music.
In 2005 he was appointed university organist at the University of Glasgow in Scotland, while continuing his teaching career at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. Kenneth Walton, music critic of The Scotsman newspaper, recently described him as "one of Britain's most sought-after recitalists; a winner of some of the most prestigious international competitions; a champion of the hottest and most interesting new repertoire for the instrument ... one of the most exciting and talented organists in the country".
He is a lover of real ale and malt whisky, and lists his favourite recreation as "sleeping".
