[edit] Summary
In a hotel, Ben spots an area where they are demonstrating a new game. He decides to use Ghostfreak's power to sneak in. He is caught, and Ben, Gwen, and Max are kicked out. After Ben and Max argue, Ben wanders out into the city on his own. There, he meets Kevin, a sociopath who has the power to absorb any form of energy. After Ben is forced to reveal what the Omnitrix is capable of, Kevin suggests that they team up. Once Kevin turns out to be too violent for Ben's tastes, Ben tries to stop him. Kevin then begins absorbing the powers of the Omnitrix for his own benefit. Ben learns that there are some times where you can't have everything your way all the time.
[edit] Recap
The episode starts at a hotel in New York City. Max is checking everyone in. Gwen comments on all the amenities the hotel offers, and Max reminds her that it's only for one day. Meanwhile, Ben spots a room that's featuring the brand new Sumo Slammer video game. He tries to go play it, but is stopped by the guard. His attempts to convince the guard to let him through fall on deaf ears. As he gives up, Max warns him not to sneak in. Ben says he won't, but changes into Ghostfreak and does so, saying it's not technically him. After playing the game for a bit, he reverts back to human form just in time for the guard to catch him.
Outside the hotel, the guard tosses them out of the hotel. Ben and Max get into a big argument over Ben's inability to follow directions and misuse of the watch, eventually ending in Ben losing access to anything with Sumo Slammer in the name. Max walks out to see if he can get some of his money back while Ben fumes. After he leaves, Ben heads off into the city, despite Gwen's protests.
The two eventually end up at an arcade. There, Ben plays a baseball game and gets a game over message fairly quickly. When he complains to a nearby attendant, he just points out the "play at your own risk" sign and continues walking. A nearby teenager notices this and agrees with Ben's complaint. Then, as a favor, he sends an energy surge into the machine, causing it to spit out all the tokens that were in it. As Ben collects some of the tokens, Gwen says that they can't take them since they're not theirs. Ben just shrugs it off and does so anyway. As Ben makes friends with the kid, who calls himself Kevin, a couple of dangerous-looking teenagers start rounding the corner. The sight of them seems to scare Kevin, and he begins to leave. As he does, a third teenager blocks his path. Kevin backs up and is grabbed by the first two, who have now been joined by a fourth teenager. As they hold him, Ben offers to help. The fourth to arrive laughs at this, saying that he'll need more than just Ben, then tosses Ben away. Clearly outmatched, Ben runs off to transform into an alien, despite Gwen's protests.
While Ben transforms in XLR8, the four teenagers threaten to hurt Kevin for the destruction of their hangout. Before they can do anything, XLR8 shows up and beats up all four in record time. Outside, Gwen complains about Ben using his powers for that. Ben says that he was helping out a friend, which Gwen and Max don't seem to understand according to him. Kevin shows up, clearly amazed by XLR8's actions. Ben claims to be a personal friend of the alien, so Kevin offers Ben a tour of the city. Gwen reminds Ben that Max will be mad if he has to wait any longer, but Ben ignores her and decides to go with Kevin. Gwen just walks off and leaves him to his own devices.
While touring New York, Ben discusses Kevin's power with him. Kevin explains that he was born like that. He explains that he can store and release any type of energy whenever he wishes, like a sponge. He then offers to show Ben where he lives. Meanwhile, Gwen gets back to the RV to find an angry Max curious about Ben's whereabouts. She's slightly reluctant to explain.
Ben and Kevin eventually end up at Kevin's place, which is an abandoned subway station. Several televisions are scattered about, as well as a vending machine and an arcade machine. When Ben asks about the gang that attacked him earlier, Kevin says that he trashed their hideout under the 39th Street bridge. Kevin explains that he lives alone since his parents weren't to excited about having a freak for a son. Ben likes the setup, then gives a quick explanation as to why he and his grandpa aren't getting along currently. Upon hearing about the Sumo Slammer game, Kevin gets an idea.
At a warehouse near the docks, Kevin uses his power to break in and show Ben crates full of the new game. As they kick in the door, the silent alarm goes off. As Kevin tosses Ben a copy of the game, tear gas cans are fired through the windows. The police have surrounded the building, bringing the SWAT team and helicopters along with them. The two drop the games and run, only to be stopped by the SWAT team at every exit. Kevin absorbs some energy from a nearby outlet and uses it to start up a forklift. He then crashes the forklift into one of the SWAT members. As he recovers, Ben and Kevin break for the exit, only to be cut off by police cars. They run back in as the police start exiting their cars.
As Ben and Kevin contemplate their situation, Ben decides to show Kevin what the Omnitrix can do. He transforms into Stinkfly so they can escape. Kevin comments on the terrible smell of the creature. Stinkfly agrees, then quickly flies by the police with Kevin in tow. As they flee, the police in helicopters attempt to shoot them down. By flying near the Statue of Liberty, Stinkfly is able to lose them for a time. He's eventually spotted hanging from the bottom of one of the helicopters. The chase then proceeds into the city. Stinkfly runs into a tour-bus along the way, where several tourists take pictures of him and Kevin. They continue flying through traffic, passing Max's RV along the way and being spotted by a news crew. Their broadcast is being routed to a large outdoor television, so Stinkfly and Kevin end up on it. Kevin does a quick peace sign with his fingers before the police pursuing them shoot the television. Stinkfly eventually finds a bridge and a semi truck transporting cars. He flies over the truck and under the bridge, forcing the police to wait for them to exit it. On the other side, the semi passes by with no one above it. The baffled officers fail to notice Kevin and a now human Ben in the back seat of one of the cars.
In an alley, Kevin questions Ben about the watch. Ben explains how it works. When Kevin asks to see the other aliens, Ben explains that the Omnitrix has a mind of its own. Kevin asks if he can try it out, but Ben tells him that it won't come off. Accepting that, Kevin says that he and Ben should be partners, since their combined powers would allow them to do anything they wanted. Ben agrees, and the two shake hands. Meanwhile, Max is fuming over everything Ben has done up to this point.
In the subway system, Kevin has Ben boost him up to a lamp so he can absorb some energy. After absorbing a large amount of power, he walks over to the switcher for the track and uses the energy to activate it. Once the track switches, he explains that it'll cause a money train and a passenger train to collide, allowing Ben to scoop up the cash with XLR8. Ben is against the plan, saying that hundreds will be killed by it. Kevin doesn't care, so Ben decides to stop him, seeing just how selfish he was at the same time. When Kevin tosses him into one of the barrier, Ben decides to use Fourarms to switch the track back. For some reason, he ends up as Heatblast instead. Despite his annoyance with the unexpected change, he threatens Kevin. Kevin isn't scared by the change. He heads over to the switcher and starts pumping energy into it. This filters through all the surrounding lights, darkening the entire section of the subway.
As Heatblast looks through the darkness, Kevin hops on his back and starts absorbing his energy. The act causes Kevin quite a bit of pain and the force tosses him away. When Heatblast goes to check on him, he is hit by a fireball. Kevin then emerges from the darkness with half of his body reshaped into a look-alike of Heatblast. Heatblast tries to talk Kevin down, but he's too disillusioned with society to be convinced. Fighting him turns out to be equally pointless, since Heatblast can't even touch Kevin. The two trains then arrive, forcing Heatblast to change priorities. He melts the switcher, saving the trains from collision. He's nearly hit by one of them, but manages to lift himself onto its roof before that happens. As the trains takes Heatblast away, Kevin decides that it's time for revenge.
On the train, Heatblast is having a difficult time hanging on. As he bounces from car to car, he finally manages to burn a hole in the roof for a hand-grip. Meanwhile, Max and Gwen learn of his escape in the subway when its reported that fires have been breaking out over the tunnels. He does a quick u-turn and heads for the subway.
Back on the train, the Omnitrix reverts Ben back to normal just as the train leaves the tunnel. Max honks at Ben once he's out, having been driving along side the tunnel the entire time. He opens the awning for Ben to land on then drives to the correct side for Ben to jump to. Ben jumps just as the trains passes under a gate. Gwen compliments Max on the catch.
In the RV, Max chews Ben out once again for not listening, saying that everything that has happened wouldn't have if he had just listened in the first place. Ben shifts the conversation to the more immediate concern of Kevin, which Gwen agrees with. When Max asks about Kevin's whereabouts, Ben remembers Kevin's earlier comment about the 39th Street bridge. They hit traffic along the way, which prompts Ben to continue on as Stinkfly. Once again, the Omnitrix transforms him into the wrong alien, this one being Fourarms. He complains about it and then heads off.
At the hideout of the gang, Kevin's new powers have the four teenagers trapped under a large pipe. Kevin laughs at their weakness, but then loses his new powers. Fourarms arrives just in time to explain that the power is gone. Kevin just says that he'll get more from him. Fourarms disagrees, but then Kevin threatens to electrocute the gang with the power he has left. Fourarms is forced to stop him, allowing Kevin to absorb his powers. This turns Kevin into a six-armed monster. Only two of the arms are the same size as Fourarms. He also has only three eyes: one normal one and two like Fourarms. The two start to fight, with Kevin doing slightly better than Fourarms.
As they battle, Gwen and Max arrive. They rescue the gang and tell them to run. During all this, the Omnitrix signals that Fourarms is about to revert. Desperate, Ben manages to get the upper-hand on Kevin and toss him into the bridge, breaking a pillar. Kevin begs for mercy after the quick beating, convincing Ben that he just went overboard because he doesn't have any friends. Ben offers to take Kevin along with them so he can use his powers for good. Once Ben walks close enough, though, Kevin reveals his attitude to be an act. He grabs Ben and tries to take the watch. When he does, something odd happens. The watch instantly recharges and begins to emit some kind of pulse. The pulse knocks Kevin through several pillars. Ben is knocked away, too, but is caught by Max. The damage caused by Kevin causes the bridge to collapse. When Kevin gets up, his powers have been neutralized. Realizing this, he takes off.
In the RV, Ben apologizes for all the trouble he caused. Max says that he'll have to earn back his trust. Meanwhile, in the subway, Kevin is seen testing his powers -- the pulse from the Omnitrix permanently gave him Heatblast's powers, as he lights his hand on fire without transforming it. The episode ends with Kevin laughing maniacally.
