Kettle Whistle is a compilation of Jane's Addiction recordings ranging from before their first album to recordings by the "Relapse" line-up of 1997. It was released on November 4, 1997.
In 1997, when Perry Farrell, Stephen Perkins, Dave Navarro and Flea got together to form the Jane's Addiction Relapse, Warner Brothers delivered this compilation of new, old and live Jane's Addiction material. This single disc created official releases for nearly all of the unreleased Jane's Addiction songs, many of which were touched up or re-recorded by the band in 1997. Toward the end of the liner tracks, there is a listing of interesting bits of information about each track and what makes them unique and special.

[edit] Information on tracks
- "Kettle Whistle" (the song) is a song Jane's used to play live in the late eighties but was never recorded. When Jane's Addiction reformed in 1997 with Michael Balzary replacing Eric Avery on bass, the band recorded this song in August of that year at "Mount Mehru Studios" in Venice, CA. This studio is owned by Farrell and Perkins' former band Porno for Pyros
- The version of "Ocean Size" included on this compilation is a demo the band recorded to show their producing prowess to Warner Bros. Recorded at "Capitol Records Studios", 1988.
- "My Cat's Name is Maceo" is a demo recorded in 1987 at "Hully Gully Studios", Los Angeles. The song is about Perry Farrell's cat.
