Kettle Moraine High School

KMHS: Kettle Moraine High School is a secondary school located in Wales, Wisconsin. It serves students grades 9-12, who typically come from Kettle Moraine Middle School. The Kettle Moraine School District is part of the nationally recognized Blue Ribbon Schools Program. KMHS competes in the Classic 8 Conference. Kettle Moraine's nickname is the Lasers. The school colors are navy and gold. Currently, the principal is Tanya Kotlowski, who was hired at the start of the 2006 school year.[1]

Kettle Moraine has many sports programs, including Soccer, Football, Wrestling, Basketball, Gymnastics. The KM Hockey team is ranked 2nd in state. The cross country team sent three of their girls to state in 2006.

Unlike many other local high schools, KM does not have a mascot. Their symbol is the laser, which was selected by the class of 1968 instead of "Mustangs" or "Cougars."[2]

[edit] Clubs and after-school activities

KM has one of the largest DECA clubs in the state, and just hosted the regional competition. The FBLA organization has fewer members, but its numbers are expanding.

There are video announcements daily during 3rd hour. While creating a new show everyday can prove difficult, they manage to pull it off. The have a signature entry and exit, which are recognizable by all KM students. They allow commercials for school activates and fundraisers to run as commercials, which increases student participation exponentially.

[edit] Dick Ohm Merit

The Dick Ohm Merit is available to all students that enroll at KMHS that have meet the following requirements.

a. Participate in school Activities.
b. Exhibit positive attitude in class
c. Perform service for school/community
d. Have shown leadership through good behavior and citizenship during the school year

This award is unique to KMHS, and has ridged guidelines. One of which is being approved by 3 teachers, which can be hard to do.[3]
