[edit] Overview
Keroro is a sergeant of Planet Keron's Army, and the captain of the Keroro Platoon.
According to Earth's Gregorian calender, Keroro's birthday is December 9.[1] His blood type is O. His age is not revealed in detail, but considering the fact that he knows Angol Moa (who is currently 2000 years old) from when she was a child, it can be presumed that he is more than 2000 years old in Earth years (Watanabe, Keroro's seiyū, has stated that she played Keroro as someone who was about 45 years old). However, this is questionable, as Keroro described himself to be a child when Nintendo started selling the Game & Watch systems in Volume 7, Chapter 56.[2]
The origin of his name comes from the Japanese onomatopoeia for the sound a frog makes ("kero").
[edit] Physical appearance
Keroro's body is a green color, accompanied with yellow headgear with a red star in the middle (a yellow star is also seen on Keroro's stomach). According to Lieutenant Garuru, the star is the symbol of the Keron Force as well as its commanding officers.[3] When Keroro is met with an explosion (usually courtesy of Giroro shoving a grenade down his throat), he suddenly grows a large black afro and takes on the persona of "Afro Gunsō". He can also change into a ball form, as seen in the first episodes of the anime.
[edit] Life with the Hinata Family
Keroro lurked in the Hinata household until he was discovered by Natsumi and Fuyuki, after which he was captured. With his weapon, the Kero Ball, taken from him and his army having abandoned him, Keroro easily surrendered. The freeloader (formerly a prisoner of war) becomes troublesome for the Hinata Family. Each time he is found guilty of something, Natsumi physically abuses him to no end. But now, through being the housekeeper of the Hinata household, Keroro has become familiar to living a wonderful (if stressful) life on Earth.
[edit] Hobbies
Keroro's hobbies include comics/television (his favorite being Baron Frog) and net surfing (he operates his own home page, named Poetry and Violence: The Sergeant's Room), but is especially enthusiastic about the creation and compilation of Gunpla (Gundam plastic models), possessing numerous models in his room.
In addition, whenever Keroro sees a banana peel on the ground, Keroro steps on it without fail, as it is apparently his devout wish to entertain the masses.[4]
[edit] Strengths
Because of his everyday life as the house cleaner in the Hinata household, Keroro is an exceptional cleaner and curler.
Another strength of Keroro's is swimming. With his "Atlantis Man Stroke", he can swim 50 meters in less than 28 seconds.
[edit] Weaknesses
According to the anime, Keroro's biggest fear is his own father. In addition, he hates the sound of styrofoam rubbing together. Furthermore, Keroro slips on any banana peel laid out in front of him. Whenever Fuyuki says the word 'friend', Keroro becomes consumed with feelings of guilt. In addition, he dislikes capsicums and is known to get easily distracted. Keroro is also a drooling otaku for all things Gunpla, which is by far his biggest weakness.
[edit] Relationships
Keroro gets along well with Fuyuki, unlike with Natsumi who considers the invaders a nuisance. Keroro is the son of the famously powerful Demon Sergeant. He is idolized by Tamama who has a type of possessive affection for him while Angol Mois has a more mutual affection, though Keroro doesn't realize Mois's attempts to get closer. Another of Keroro's closest friends is Aki Hinata who, though she at first considered the invaders as just an idea for a new manga, now considers them as part of her family. He is childhood friends of Giroro and Dororo, though he seemed to abuse and take advantage of Dororo at every turn through their early years.
[edit] Speech mannerisms
Keroro mostly speaks in the first person. In his more high-strung moments, he speaks with a Kumamoto tone. In addition, when he becomes an old Yakuza person, he adopts a strange Kansai dialect. Furthermore, when Keroro has his memories wiped out by the Garuru Platoon, his speaking style is a parody of Char Aznable.
Keroro usually ends his sentences with 'de arimasu', which roughly translates to 'that is is'.
Whenever Keroro is scheming, he emits a raspy "Ge~ro gero gero...", lines appear between his eyes (much like Kururu), and his pupils become thin. His sobs appear to be based somewhat on the call of the Common Guillemot. Lastly, whenever he speaks English words, such as 'radio' or 'no problem', he rolls any R's in it.
[edit] Childhood
Giroro was a childhood friend of Keroro, but the two also visited Dororo's house often, and the three got along well. Giroro was often amazed by Keroro's "Go to the place where one is told not to go, and enter the place where one is told not to enter" way of life, but Dororo is deeply traumatized, and remains so today. Afterward, Keroro set his sights toward becoming a soldier, and spent much of his youth in military school, where he met Kururu and Tamama and formed the Keroro Platoon. These days are usually described by the others as "back then", first called as such when Keroro first encountered the humid atmosphere of Earth.
[edit] Other information
He gets along well with Fuyuki Hinata, with a friendship that exceeds space. He is also in love with Pururu.
His favorite dishes include French fried potatoes, odango, carambolas, and caviar.
[edit] Costumes and transformations
- Keroro from "Back Then"
- Keroro's body becomes glossy when the planet's humidity has reached a level higher than that of Keron. "Back then" is the time when Keroro still lived in Planet Keron. His combat power and intelligence increase threefold, as evidenced by Keroro's ability to take down Natsumi with but a whisper into her ear. However, because of his strengthened biological reaction, it is easy for him to be discovered by hostile space aliens such as Viper and Nyororo. His speaking style also changes during this form (this concept appears to stem from Son Goku's Super Saiyan form in Dragon Ball Z) In Part B of Episode 127 of the anime, parodies of Ultimate Muscle and Mobile Fighter G Gundam are seen when Keroro enters this stage
- Full Armor Keroro
- When Keroro enters this stage, which appears in both the original manga and Part B of Episode 43 of the anime, his whole body is heavily equipped. He transforms into this stage by pressing the star on his forehead. However, its only weak point (which Giroro immediately exploits) is the head, which is completely bare. The sequence this form is used in is a reference to Gundam NT-1 "Alex" of Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket, as the weapons seen on the armor resemble those of Kämpfer.
- Cosmic Junji
- Keroro takes this "Junji Form" when telling scary ghost stories, a la Junji Inakawa. He even dons his mustache.
