Kerkoporta

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kerkoporta (Greek Κερκόπορτα) was a sally-port along the Theodosian Walls of Constantinople, near the bend created by the addition of the Blachernae suburb to the original city. It was through this unattended gate that the first Ottoman troops entered the city on May 29th 1453, raising their banner atop the tower and beginning the rout of the Christian defenders.
