Keomi Gray

Born in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire 21st March 1849, Keomi Gray was the daughter of Osery Gray and his wife Eliza Heron, a Romany family who travelled the Cambridgeshire and Norfolk areas. Keomi met the artist Frederick Sandys in Norwich, and had a long relationship with him, which brought her four children: Ethel in about 1864, Frederick Cyril about 1866, Madeline about 1877 and Henry Herbert about 1869. She sat for many of his paintings but is best seen in his "Medea", and also for at least one for his friend Dante Gabriel Rossetti - appearing on the extreme right in the "Beloved". She later went on to marry Charles Stewart Bonnett, and by him had another three children: Nelly, about 1877, Rose, about 1879 and Florence, about 1882. Keomi died 19 Septeber 1914 and is buried at Gorleston Cemetery with her husband.
