[edit] Lists and article requests page
Hey; not sure if you've caught my latest contribution to rolodexing different topics in list form: List of historic ranches in British Columbia, to go with the ghost towns and ships ones; (probably also historic routes and trails might be a good idea?). I'm still bailing out of here; these last projects are to tidy up what I have in my head before I'm gone, and at least lay out the framework for what else there might be. I hope my ramblings on the Article Requests page aren't more suitable for its talk page; I keep on thinking of migrating stuff there while writing it but never sure where to break off and say "see talk page". The idea is to lay out, albeit not in point form, the topic areas and article/topic breakdowns that are out there, waiting to be done; or in the case of the ranches and ships and other similar series of articles, whole topic areas needing doing; hmm the REs in BC I'd already mentioned - then there's the Oblates, all and each of whom are an interesting story, at least, er, I mean, in the historical period, when (supposedly) the ugly stuff that came out in our generation wasn't (supposedly) going on; but Lejeune, Durieu, Demers, Fouquet, Morice and others are all worth more lengthy bios, as with any other pioneer/frontier-era personalities. These just late night thoughts while checking into Wiki after coming in at 3:10 am from playing the open mic at the Anza Club; finally rocked 'em flat ;-) yaHOO, but you popped to mind when reviewing my latest "ravings" at Talk:Stewart Phillip; you may have different opinion of the constitutionalities at question but it's more my comments about BC as a separate historical/identifiable place, and not just one distinct society but several, huh? Anyway, g'nite. Time to hit the hay, finally. Oh - I know there were a couple of important ranches on the Island; maybe I almost should have titled that List of historic ranches and estates in British Columbia, but maybe that's too broad a name anyway; I'm thinking of the Colwood and Saanich and Cowichan and Comox Valley farms/estates/ranches (depending on what livestock they had); hm Beaver Point just came to mind on Saltspring, but I'm not sure if that's the name of the ranch the park has been created around or just the point per se (Beaver Point Provincial Park, if not downgraded to a Protected Area - ??)...I camped there once, back in '76 I realize it was now....Skookum1 11:31, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note. The Ranches list is a good idea as are the others. It will be interesting to see how the articles they call for fill out. These are very valuable and present an opportunity for others to fill in interesting topics. I think your comments are in the right place on the Requests page but a short reference to these lists should be on the ToDo section of the project page as well. These ranches, ships, ghost towns are worth preserving. I have a stack of library books here about coastal steamer shipping and BC history that I want to browse and use to source work but haven't had any time lately, soon perhaps. You will leave a gap around here when you disappear, hope you won't be gone long. --KenWalker | Talk 16:09, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey there. You made a note on another user's talk page that you had removed some of their edits to the article in question, but it looks like all you did was add the note on the talk page. The article history doesn't show any recent changes by you. Did you remember to leave the courteous note, and then forget to actually make the changes, perhaps? :) --PeruvianLlama(spit) 16:45, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- I noticed that. I was doing it at the same time you were and the changes I made didn't stick somehow. I have made a couple of deletions now. It really needs some more tuning up though. --KenWalker | Talk 20:49, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Oceanside
Hi Ken. Our friend Skookum and I have been re-categorizing communities from generic Communities In BC category to unincorporated/villages/ etc and I came across this entry you added back in January. It just didn't strike me as a community at all, but rather a concoction (with no disrespect intended to those who came up with it) of local chambers of commerce/tourism promotion folks. I know it's kind of your neck of the woods, so figured I'd just share my thoughts on it, prior to removing it from a community category. Someone at some point may see fit to delete it altogether, and at this point I could kind of see their reasoning. But I wouldn't go that far at present. Besides, I'm not a big fan of the deletionist philosophy (if you can call it that). Just thought I'd mention it. Later. --Keefer4 00:23, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
- I think you are on the right track. It is a name given to the communities here as a group to avoid calling them District 69, after the school district. The name came into use in the last dozen or so years. It is also used for the "Oceanside Route" which is the old island highway from Parksville to Courtenay now that it follows the inland route. I only added it because it is named and was a red link in the communities banner template that appears at the bottom of the page. I appreciate the heads up. KenWalker | Talk 07:48, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing those links. It was on the list but after I moved the article I had to go out for a while and therefore didn't get around to it. Cheers. Nomadtales 04:30, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
