Kenya Methodist University, often referred to as KEMU, is a four-year, liberal arts university located in Meru, Kenya. It is under the auspices of the Methodist Church in Kenya, and has over 1000 students. Founded in 1997, its first graduating class received degrees in 2001.
It is located about five miles from Meru Town on the road to Maua. Built on the site of the former Kaaga Rural Training Centre, it offers degrees in Business, Agriculture, Education, Counselling, Mathematics & Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Nursing, religious studies, History and other subjects. Plans are in place to build a teaching hospital and other faculties in the future, when a medical course for doctors will be instituted.
KEMU has received generous support from a number of foreign and domestic donors, both for special building funds and operating expenses, to supplement revenues from tuition and fees. It educates students from all over Kenya.
