[edit] Overview
A school of over two-thousand students, Kentlake, like all other high schools in the district has been holding grades 10-12 since it opened, but because of the growth in local population, the junior high schools had became overwhelmed and Kentlake has been transformed into a full high school, housing grades 9-12.

[edit] Architecture
Kentlake High School was designed by the architectural firm Burr Lawrence Rising and Bates.
The school is laid out in a giant triangular shape, with a few other large rooms distorting the basic shape, but still retaining a resemblance. With two stories, the school is quite compact and easy to get around in. Built in 1997 the school is fairly new and the architecture is still clean and in good shape. Around the school the architecture is quite intriguing and seems to have an emphasis on columns and circles and is quite spectacular on first sight. It has been commonly remarked that the school resembles a small univeristy.
A large part of Kentlake is the Performing Arts Center. A unique part of the PAC are its twin rotating Halls, Cascade and Rainier Hall. Each room is capable of rotating 360 Degrees, to either be a small lecture hall or a large classroom, or to become part of the main theatre and provide extra seating.
[edit] Arts
Kentlake has a large emphasis on the arts with many display cases around the school which are filled to the brim with student artwork. Many classes are offered on a wide range of subjects, ranging from AP Art to Ceramics.
Music also has a large presence in the school with band (including Jazz Band), orchestra and choir classes offered for people of any skill level. Concerts take place throughout the year and are fairly well attended. The music programs tour around the state and indeed around the country and around the continent. Choir classes are taught by Mrs. P. Baldock, Orchestra by Mr. Dave Harris and Band by Mr. Charles (Chuck) Stowell.
Along with housing the orchestra classes and assemblies throughout the year, the Performing Arts Center is also home to Kentlake's drama group. The thespians put on plays and musicals during the year, including in recent years, Beauty and the Beast, Romeo and Juliet, Little Shop of Horrors and Diary of Anne Franke, to name a few. The upcoming plays for the 2006-2007 year are "A Funny Thing Happened On the Way To the Forum" and "Once Upon a Mattress." The group is directed by Mrs. Pamela Cressey.[2]
[edit] Newspaper
The Kentlake Newspaper, The Falcon Flyer, publishes every month, and contains a range of articles from Arts and Entertainment to policy debates and the occasional comedic article. All articles are published by students. It is professionally printed at The King County Journal Headquarters and has undergone some formatting changes in the 2006-2007 school year. The paper contains advertisements for local businesses and coupons that often benefit the students and help facilitate the printing of the paper.
