Kenmore Middle School is located at 200 South Carlin Springs Road in Arlington, Virginia. It's current principal is Dr. John A. Word, Sr. and is administered by the Arlington Public Schools system. As of 2006-2007, there are 723 students enrolled and over 79 teachers (51 of which have their Master's Degree). It is accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Kenmore's athletes are so named the Cougars and wear the colors green and gold.

Kenmore Middle School is administered by the Arlington Public Schools, and as of 2006-2007, there are 723 students enrolled and over 79 teachers (51 of which have their Master's Degree). It is accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
[edit] Building Structure and Location

Kenmore Middle School is located at 200 South Carlin Springs Road in Arlington, Viginia. After a long process, Kenmore's new building was completed for the 2005-2006 school year. The new building is state of the art, and contains a vastly larger auditorium, cafeteria, art studio, and library/media center. It also has several floors unlike the previous building. The previous building was used for 50 years, first as an elementary school and later as a middle school. It was decided that a new building was needed after the old building started to show signs of old age.

Kenmore Middle School is located right off of Arlington Blvd or Route 50 on Carlin Springs Road, and is approximately one mile east of Bailey's Crossroads and Seven Corners. It is centralized for students in both North and South Arlington. Students of Kenmore feed to Wakefield High School, Washington-Lee High School, and Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Fairfax, Virginia.

Unlike many middle schools in the United States, Kenmore is not predominantly White.
Its demographic breakdown of the 2006-2007 school year is as follows:[1]
- 43.8% Hispanic
- 23.9% White
- 18.8% Black
- 12.9% Asian/Pacific Islander
As of 2006-2007, 120 students receive ESL support.

[edit] The School Day
The entirety of the school day is the same for all students. There are 8 periods and an additional Teacher Advisory period. ( as known as TA) After school, students are privileged to partake in various academic and athletic activities. An "activity bus" is provided for students who need a ride home. If athletic activities succumb to long hours, a "sports bus" is provided later in the day.

- Kenmore offers students and faculty to show off their individual strengths and traits through an annual talent show in the Spring.
- Kenmore permits the entire school to partake in an annual field-trip envolving all students and staff.

Kenmore offers many opportunities for students to participate in various clubs and activities to support their academics and challenge them to learn and grow outside the classroom. Such activities include:

[edit] Performing Arts
Kenmore's Music Department travels every Spring to participate in the Music in the Parks comptition. The troup travels to various amusement parks and play against other elementary and middle schools. Each group (chorus, orchestra, band) usually come home with grade II honors. In recent years, the troup also comes home with the Esprit de Corps honor (usually given to the school with the most poise and discipline).

Kenmore Middle School is an arts and communications technology focus school. At Kenmore the Arlington middle school curriculum is taught through the arts and communications technology. Students are actively engaged in learning activities that involve dance/movement, drama, visual arts, music and many forms of communications technology. This delivery method provides students with alternative ways to learn the curriculum. Additionally, a special three-week summer Arts and Technology Institute is available to students each July. Based on Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences, the program seeks to encourage students to use all eight intelligences Ð musical, visual, verbal, logical, kinesthetic, interpersonal, intra personal and environmental. In addition to paper and pencil tasks, students are assessed using portfolios, multimedia presentations, video, and visual and performing arts works. Thus, learning at Kenmore is active, hands-on and connected to real life experiences. At Kenmore we believe this is the best way to learn, as research tells us that children remember 24% of what they hear, 40% of what they see and 70% of a multisensory experience. Kenmore is a member of the Kennedy Center and Schools: Changing Education through the Arts partnership. This partnership provides teachers with the tools and resources to effectively integrate the arts into classroom instruction. Although Kenmore has a prescribed attendance zone, students from throughout Arlington County attend Kenmore upon request. Bus transportation is provided for these students.[2]

Currently, there are six "teams", two for each grade. A "team" consisted of a team of teachers to teach a certain group of students. These were the following:
- 6th Grade: Clippers, Schooners
- 7th Grade: Explorers, Fliers
- 8th Grade: Comets, Stars
(Each floor has there own computer lab with a total of 6 computer labs) There are also two more teams for students requiring additional assistance:
- HILT: Globetrotters
- Life Skills: Legends

- Arts Partnerships: Kenmore Middle School has an artistic partnership with the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts entitled Changing Education through the Arts.

Kenmore is a fully accredited school based on the SOL exams conducted by the state of Virginia.
