Ken Ramirez

Ken Ramirez is the vice-president for marine mammal programs and animal training at Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.
Ramirez had 25 years of marine mammal training and care experience, then served nine years at Marineworld of Texas. He worked at Ocean Safari in South Padre Island, Texas, and in many marine mammal programs throughout the world. He began his training career working with guide dogs for the visually impaired and has maintained a close connection to the dog training world.
Ramirez is a past president of the International Marine Animal Trainer’s Association (IMATA), and has been on the board of the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network since 1987. He also has served on the board of the American Cetacean Society.
Ramirez has been published many times, including in Marine Mammals: Public Display and Research and Soundings, and the IMATA Quarterly. He teaches a course on animal training at the graduate level at Western Illinois University and wrote the book ANIMAL TRAINING: Successful Animal Management through Positive Reinforcement.
