Kelly Gregg (born November 1, 1976 in Wichita, KS) is a nose tackle for the Baltimore Ravens. He was a standout wrestler and defensive lineman in high school. He played for the Oklahoma Sooners in college from 1995-1998, and provided some of the only bright spots during the bleak Sooner campaigns of the mid-1990s. Buddy Lee, so dubbed by his NFL teammates for his resilience and determination, was selected in the 6th round of the 1999 NFL draft by the Bengals. Although cut by the Bengals, he fought his way into the starting lineup for the Baltimore Ravens. Today, he is considered the heart and soul of the Ravens defensive line, per the team's website.

[edit] Edmond North High School 1991-1994

Gregg attended Edmond North High School in Edmond, Oklahoma and was a standout in football and wrestling. In football, he was a two-time All-State selection and was named the City's Defensive Player of the Year by the Daily Oklahoman as a senior in 1994 [1]. In wrestling, he was a three-time state champion, 1993-1994-1995 in the Heavyweight division [2]. He was named wrestler of the year by the Daily Oklahoman in 1995 [3].

Named All-Big 12 first team as a Junior (1997) and Senior (1998), despite playing for teams with losing records in both seasons. Recorded 117 tackles during his senior season at Oklahoma in 1998, including a Big 12-leading and still-standing Sooner record of 24 tackles for loss. His 53 career tackles for loss still rank second all-time at OU. He also tallied nine sacks in 1998, which still ranks as the 5th best season by a Sooner. His 19 career sacks are 7th all-time for the Sooners. He led the Sooners in tackles his final two seasons with 117 (1998) and 98 (1997), becoming the first defensive lineman to do so in 30 years. He majored in Sociology at OU.

[edit] Professional Career 1999-Present

Gregg was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 4th Pick in the 6th Round (173rd Overall) of the 1999 NFL Draft.

After being waived by the Bengals, Gregg contacted Baltimore Ravens Defensive Line Coach (now Defensive Coordinator) Rex Ryan, his former Defensive Coordinator with the Oklahoma Sooners. Ryan gave Gregg the opportunity to play behind stalwarts Tony Siragusa and Sam Adams on a Super Bowl winning defense. He took full advantage of the opportunity, and has worked his way into the starting lineup.
