Keio

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There is also a Keio University in Tokyo.

Keiō (Japanese: 慶応) was a Japanese era after Genji and before Meiji, spanning, in the Gregorian calendar, from 1 May 1865 to 23 October 1868. The reigning emperors were Kōmei and Meiji. Keio University was named after this era.

[edit] Change of era

Due to the rebellion at Hamaguri Gate, on May 1, Genji 2 (1865), the era was changed to Keiō (roughly "Jubilant answer"?)
