KBVU began broadcasting on July 20, 1994 as the Eureka, California Fox affiliate. Prior to KBVU signing on, KAEF used to be the area's Fox affiliate.

The station is essentially a repeater station of Paradise, California Fox station KCVU-TV.

Though Raul Broadcasting owns the license, the station is, in effect, run by Eureka Television [1], which also operates the CBS (KVIQ), The CW (KUVU-LP), and Univision (KEUV-LP) outlets in the market.

In California, the Eureka television market and the Yuma-El Centro market are the only TV markets currently not available on either Dish Network or DirecTV.
