[edit] History

An original construction permit was granted on April 25, 2000 to Winstar Broadcasting Corp. to build a full-service television station on channel 24 serving Butte, Montana. The station, originally identified by its application number, 960404LI, took the call letters KBTZ in December 2000. The construction permit was sold to Montana Broadcasting Group Inc., part of Equity Broadcasting Group, in July 2001.

[edit] Digital television

Because it was granted an original construction permit after the FCC finalized the DTV allotment plan on April 21, 1997 [2], the station did not receive a companion channel for a digital television station. Instead, on or before February 18, 2009, which is the end of the digital TV conversion period for full-service stations, KBTZ will be required to turn off its analog signal and turn on its digital signal (called a "flash-cut").
