[edit] Greetings
Hi Kasak, I just placed a "Welcome" template on your user page to avoid red link. Feel free to replace it with anything you want to have there. If you would like to contibute to Ukraine-related articles, feel free to ask for help at my talk page. Regards, -Irpen 05:40, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)
- Got your note. You are most welcome! To sign your entries to talk pages use three tilda's like this ~~~, to have your name stamp like this "Irpen", or put four tildes ~~~~ (preferred), that would result with the name and timestampt like this. -Irpen 07:41, Jun 24, 2005 (UTC).
- P.S. Currently, there are several Ukrainian projects going on, though mostly not very active. Another contributing editor would be good to have.

[edit] Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Alex Bakharev
Take a look. It seems there that the raging russophobia of some is the only reason of the attempts to derail the candidacy of one of the most worthy people for the job. His unquestionably high ethics and decensy are so clear even from how he handles the criticism and shameless attacks at his own RfAdm even for those who don't know him from his contributions to Wikipedia! --Irpen 19:23, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- And now again, Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Alex Bakharev 2 and trolled again. Please take a look and decide for yourself whether you would like to cast a vote. Also, please do not forget to check the Russia and Ukraine portals and WP. --Irpen 04:41, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Oleg Sviatoslavich move
I just saw you move the article Oleg of Chernigov to Oleg Sviatoslavich. I think you should have waited a little more for feedback. For example I think the proper spelling is actually Oleg Svyatoslavich, but I see it has history(thanks to a bot actually, if it was an AndriyK-style move done with the impediment to futher move can be reveresed by an admin per AndriyK arbitration ruling). But it is no reason to modify the spelling because the software would allow only this move. I would like to ask you to move it back to "of Chernihiv" yourself and from there we'll see what to do next(I find it a good idea ), Brittanica styles him Oleg Svyatoslavich in Vladimir Monomakh article–Gnomz007(?) 06:23, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
- Guys, please do not move anything else without discussion. Leave it as is and propose the moves first. Moves are much more difficult to undo. --Irpen 06:27, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- In my opinion Svyatoslavich would imply Свъятославич. Of course, only GOST would be ideal, but that would be far to confusing for most English speakers. Also keep in mind that in Polish and Lacinka (respectively) it's Swiatosław and Sviatasłaŭ. Kazak 07:16, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
-
I don't care about the y/i issue but promise to stick not to undo when others correct me on this. So, I am not qualified to participate in ya/ia dispute. In any case, I strongly object to udiscussed article moves, except for the obvious ones. Thanks, --Irpen 07:31, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Karelia
Are you sure that Finnish is not official in Karelia? The republic's site is in Finnish and the very status of "republic" indicates that the титульная нация has special privileges. Kazak 20:56, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- [after edit conflict] Quite sure. Karelian/Finnish are in common use in the republic, but they do not have official status. Karelian is being promoted on the official level, and there is a strong push towards making it co-official with Russian, but so far that has not yet been accomplished. I commented to that effect on the article's talk, citing article 11.1 of the republic's Constitution, which should answer most of your other questions if you have any. Thanks for keeping eye on this.—Ëzhiki (ërinacëus amurënsis) 21:02, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Never mind, I just found this link on the subject. Perhaps we should work it into the Karelia article? Kazak 21:00, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yup, that's a good one. Anons keep adding Finnish/Karelian as official to the article on the Republic of Karelia; this information should stop that.—Ëzhiki (ërinacëus amurënsis) 21:04, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Great. I cleaned up the article (removing all the references to Finnish as official) and added a footnote to the "official language" box with a link to the Karelian government site. It's really helpful that they translate their articles into English. Kazak 21:51, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for doing that, it's much appreciated. Hopefully this will solve the problem of anon edits once and for all.—Ëzhiki (ërinacëus amurënsis) 21:53, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for your voting!
Hi, thanks for your voting on my RFA. It has finished with the result 88/14/9, and I am promoted. I am really overwhelmed with the amount of support I have got. With some of you we have edited many articles as a team, with some I had bitter arguments in the past, some of you I consider to be living legends of Wikipedia and some nicks I in my ignorance never heard before. I love you all and I am really grateful to you.
If you feel I can help you or Wikipedia as a human, as an editor or with my newly acquired cleaning tools, then just ask and I will be happy to assist. If you will feel that I do not live up to your expectation and renegade on my promises, please contact me. Maybe it was not a malice but just ignorance or a short temper. Thank you very much, once more! abakharev 07:34, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Massive renaming
Please refrain from massive renaming of historical names without discussing first. `'mikka (t) 07:31, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- Seconded. I know you meant well but it is always a good idea to propose the move first and see what others say. But glad to see you back. --Irpen 07:41, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thirded. Additionaly, please refrain from changing spellings of Russian geo-locations—this is extremely disruptive. But hey, welcome back!—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 12:10, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- Fourthed. I question the wisdom of moving Ksnyatin to Ksniatin and Sknyatino to Skniatino. We have a system of redirects to fix possible ambiguities. --Ghirla -трёп- 13:15, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- Fifthed, this is not meant to be a gang up, but remember there is WP:CYR and although your renames were harmless there are a group of degenerates that would always put a stick in any wheel. Take a look at what happened to Maladzyechna, the talk page, and how long the dispute was kept going. Believe me there are people here that make this a priority of their wikitime. It is just unfortunate that we have to deal with them. In any case feel free to chase up all lacinka names and turn them into their translit versions. --Kuban Cossack 17:06, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

And to this I just want to add that all the users above (I take a liberty to speak for all) welcome your return. The tradition to propose the moves first has become more or less established recently and we all benefit from it. Please stay around. --Irpen 17:35, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Is there any place where this discussion could occur? It seems grossly inefficient to discuss each Feodor and Vasili separately. Regardless, if that's our rule then Peter the Great should be Pyotr, Michael should be Mikhail, etc. Monarchs' names are always translated. If the Russian Basil I is called Vasili I, then the Byzantine one should be Basileios I. Cossack 04:19, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
-
- There are two ways to proceed. One is to make a global proposal about renaming them all according to the rule you propose. Start from the Portal:Russia/Russia-related Wikipedia notice board if you want to pursue this. Another, and perhaps better way, is to float a couple of trial balls. Propose 1 or two at their own talk pages and wait for some feedback. --Irpen 04:24, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
Done. Please take a look. Cossack 04:38, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Як на мене ви такий ж "експерт" у цій області як і будь-хто інший на Вікіпедії, Ірпеню. Cossack 00:53, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- Козаче, та який же я експерт? Я тому й запропонував почекати. Гірла, наприклад, то вже експерт. --Irpen 01:33, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
-
Cossack 02:45, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Слухай, давай краще англійською поки ми на Вікіпросторі. Українською чи російською скільки завгодно у приватних листах. As for "commonly known", I presented the usage by Britannica. I assume EB bases its choice on the historic literature. --Irpen 03:18, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- Українською я казав лише тому що тема була особиста. Like I've said, the 1911 Britannica used the anglicized versions. I don't have access to the current one, but in either case Wikipedia shouldn't aspire to be a mirror of Britannica. Cossack 03:23, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
WP is not and should not be a mirror of EB. I totally agree with you on that. WP illuminates topics in much greater detail because it has a huge resource of editors. EB has its own strength. This is not directly relevant to the issue at hand. The issue is what names should the articles use. As per WP:NC(UE):
- If you are talking about a person, country, town, movie or book, use the most commonly used English version of the name for the article, as you would find it in other encyclopedias and reference works.
I checked one such other encyclopedia. You can check Columbia to complement my results (Columbia is available without subsrciption). We can also check the Google Books. My personal experience with EB is that it bases its usage on analysis of other sources. Whenevr we had disputes about the article names for the cities, I both analyzed the media usage and the EB's name. They alsways matched for all UA Oblast centers (see Kharkiv, Lviv, Luhansk but Kiev and Odessa). We should not just duplicate EB but we should take into account what name it chooses in deciding what name we choose. --Irpen 03:39, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Please avoid cut-and-past moves, such as Leonid Chernovetskyi to Leonid_Chernovetsky. But if regardless of this, you still think that the article needs to be moved, please submit your request accordingly. --KPbIC 02:30, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Reverted edits
As per this edit... The edit you made looked like vandalism to me, I mean, two parts were removed from the infobox and something else was written. I didn't know that a plural_slavic thing existed in the infobox and I just noticed what it does... I'll go and revert my edit. [edit] Happy New Year!
[edit] Edits without edit summaries tend to look like vandalism or spam!
I have noticed you commonly don't enter an edit summary. This causes me problems. When I patrol for vandalism, I use the summary to make a preliminary decision on whether or not the post is a vandal edit or not. If the summary is present (or at least a section header, the part inside the /* */), I commonly decide the edit is legit and move on.
However, if no edit summary is available, I typically resort to loading the diff for the edit. This takes time. For that reason, if your edits are all valid, I ask that you provide edit summaries. For more on how to enter an edit summary, please read Help:Edit summary.
Incidentally, it is not just me that appreciate having edit summaries. When you omit your summary, you may be telling various bots that you are vandalizing pages. For this reason, please consider providing that summary. It is very important.
