Kayserispor is a Turkish sports club based in Kayseri. Founded in 1975, they are currently playing in the Turkish Premier Super League. This team's previous name was Kayseri Erciyesspor.

[edit] Before 2005-2006 Season

Kayseri Erciyesspor was founded as Kayser Emniyetspor by changing name of Kayserigücü in 1975. Emniyetspor's colours were red-dark blue. Kayseri Emniyetspor promoted to Third League in 1987-88 season. Kayseri Emniyetspor changed her name as Kayseri Erciyesspor and her colours as black-white in 1989-90 season. Kayseri Erciyesspor changed her name as Büyükşehir Belediye Erciyesspor and her colours as blue-white in 1992. Büyükşehir Belediye Erciyesspor changed name as Melikgazi Belediyespor and her colurs as yellow-red in 1994. Melikgazi Belediyespor became Hacılar Erciyesspor and changed her colours as yellow-dark blue in 1999. Finally, she promoted to Second League in 1999-2000 season.

Hacılar Erciyesspor finished first at Third Group in Second League and managed to Promotion Play-Off in 2000-2001 season. She finished 6th in Play-Off and didn't promote to First League. However, she accepted to Second League Category A for next season.

Hacılar Erciyesspor changed her name as Erciyesspor and her colours as yellow-red-white in 2001. Erciyesspor relegated to Second League Category B as third from the last in 2001-2002 season. However, she promoted to Second League Category A by finishing first at Group C in 2002-2003 season. She finally promoted to Turkish Super League as third in 2003-2004. She changed her name as Kayserispor and her colours as yellow-red in July 9 in 2004. Also, Kayserispor became Kayseri Erciyesspor at same date.

Kayserispor was coached by Hüsnü Özkara and began very bad to Turkcell Super League. She collected only 2 points after seven rounds. Hüsnü Özkara replaced with Hikmet Karaman and she began to recovering. Finally she managed to remain in Super League as 14th with great difficulty by collecting 34 points in 2004-2005 season. Kayserispor appointed Ertuğrul Sağlam as her coach after finishing this season.

Kayserispor finished 5th in the Turkcell Super League, and earned a place in the 2006 Intertoto Cup, their first European competition. They won the competition, becoming the first Turkish club honoured with winning the relatively new Uefa competition. Through this historic victory, they qualified for their second ever European competition; the Uefa Cup and became only the fifth Turkish Club to win a European club competition. The four other victories coming from Galatasaray twice (Uefa Cup 99/00 over Arsenal FC and Uefa Super Cup 00/01 over Real Madrid), Fenerbahçe (Balkans Cup 66/67 over AEK Athens FC) and Samsunspor (Balkans Cup 93/94 over PAS Giannina).

The team made its European debut in the 2006 Intertoto Cup, beating MFC Sopron 4-3 on aggregate. The team then qualified for the 2006-2007 UEFA Cup after they defeated Greek side Larisa 2-0 on aggregate in the Intertoto Cup third round, and became the first Turkish team to qualify to the UEFA Cup through the Intertoto Cup.

In their first UEFA Cup match on August 10, 2006; they beat Albanian side KF Tirana 2-0 in the first leg at Albania. Kayserispor won 3-1 in Turkey and have made it to the first round of the UEFA Cup.

Kayserispor did not reach a place in the group stages. They lost to AZ Alkmaar 4-3 on aggregate.
