[edit] Purpose

The kawoosh is portrayed as a symbol of the Stargate's power, invariably causing bystanders to be awed, reflecting or imposing a reaction on the audience. Also, any matter that comes in contact with the kawoosh effect is destroyed.

[edit] Uses

[edit] Stargate SG-1

  • In the episode "Prisoners", a criminal tries to jump into the Stargate during the kawoosh and is killed.
  • In the episodes "A Hundred Days" and "Death Knell", the kawoosh is used to create a cavern for travelers to enter after the gate has been buried or knocked over (respectively).
  • In the episode "Allegiance", the kawoosh is used ceremonially to destroy the body of a Tok'ra fallen in battle.
  • In the episode "Origin", Teal'c and Colonel Mitchell use the kawoosh to destroy the Ancient Long-Range Communication device.
  • In the episode "The Pegasus Project", the kawoosh is used to destroy an Ori ship.

[edit] Stargate Atlantis

  • None. Despite the destructive power of the kawoosh, it appears to be suppressed by the iris. This may be because it is a formation of particles (which cannot form behind the iris), as opposed to a warping of spacetime.
