Kavi (meaning poet in Hindi) can be used to refer to various genres of poetry in India and Sri Lanka.

In Avesta and Sanskrit, Kavi means sage, intelligent, and eloquent.

[edit] Kavi Dynasty

Kavi or Kayanyans were a dynasty ruling over Takharistan with their capital in Balkh most probably before the Common Era. The most famous king was Behman ibn Espandyar.
