The island of Kavaratti lies off the coast of the state of Kerala. The town is located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 0 metres (0 feet).

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Kavaratti had a population of 10,113. Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%. Kavaratti has an average literacy rate of 78%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 83%, and female literacy is 72%. In Kavaratti, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

The lagoon in Kavaratti island is ideal for water sports, swimming and there are sandy beaches for sun basking. Tourists can enjoy the marine life exhibits at the Marine Aquarium, and a vast collection of specimens at the Museum. Glass-bottomed boats that provide a delightful view of the lagoon's vibrant aquatic life are also very popular. Kayaks and Sailing Yachts are available for hire.
