Kaurwaki

Kaurwaki is a character in the legend of Indian emperor, Ashoka, set in the 3rd century BC. It is said she was a fisherwoman and later on became one of Ashoka's wives. She converted to Buddhism & became Ashoka's 3rd wife. She was immortalised in the Queen Edict (one of Ashoka's many edicts carved on pillars throughout his kingdom),

In the film Asoka, Kaurwaki is the adopted daughter of the king of Kalinga. As the movie goes she meets Ashoka (who is traveling under the pseudonym of "Pawan") in the jungle when he is in exile and falls in love with him. Then fate separates them and while Ashoka believes she died, Kaurwaki goes back to Kalinga. Later on she mobilizes peasants and women to fight against Ashoka.
