Kaura are a rock band from Berkeley, CA that was formed in 2005 by vocalist and guitarist Malcolm Guess and drummer Benjamin Jones. The band have created an epic sound that fuses ancient instruments such as hammered dulcimer, gamelan bells, and tabla, with melodic hard rock. The band has also managed to stand out due to the content of their lyrics which have themes of re-birth, compassion, spirituality, and evolution. Comparisons have been drawn to bands like A Perfect Circle, Kyuss, Muse, Dredg, and Tool.

Kaura self-released its debut EP in 2005, which featured a guest appearance by Paz Lenchantin of the bands A Perfect Circle and Zwan, on the song "Dividing Lines". The EP received critical praise and was called a "masterful debut effort" by Music Matters Magazine. In the summer of 2005, Jones and Guess travelled to India, Thailand, Bali, Cambodia,Laos, and Nepal to collect new instruments and begin writing song for their first full-length album. The entire trip was documented in a video blog, Kaura Travels.

In the fall of 2006, Kaura was invited to open for TOOL on their 10,000 Days tour stop in Sacramento, CA and opened for Rob Zombie and Godsmack at the Sleep Train Amphitheater in Concord, CA. The band is currenly writing songs for its second release.
