[edit] Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Newcomers help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I noticed you are known only as an IP address; that means you are not signed up. To sign up, you only need to click Create account and choose a username and password. You don't need to provide any personal information. If you sign up, you'll have a username that others can use to recognize you and leave you messages on the wiki. You'll be able to sign your name just by typing four tildes (~~~~) when you leave someone else a message. Plus, you (and others) will easily be able to see a list of all your contributions to Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, see the help pages, ask at the Village pump, or feel free to ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!

[edit] Paul Varghese

Thanks for asking me about my notability tag. First of all, let me underline that this tag is juts expressing a concern, and neither a definite judgment. For the moment I'd leave the tag since

  • the links are mostly of the news type which you would expect to find for any performer
  • I currently see him closer to another comedian that I actually nominated for deletion than to Russell Peters
  • Leaving the tag may help to involve other editors —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tikiwont (talkcontribs) 13:06, 31 January 2007 (UTC).

[edit] AfD nomination of Albanian-Udi

An editor has nominated Albanian-Udi, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Albanian-Udi and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. Jayden54Bot 10:54, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

I should thank you for your interests.--Dacy69 19:17, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks so much for the barnstar!

I find it amazing that both sides on the India vs. Pakistan battle are accusing me. One side is calling me a "weak, balless Indian" and the other is calling me "Pakistan-history stealer!" It gives me great pleasure to see that beyond the POV-pushers there are people to support and respect the neutrality of Wikipedia, where every view is fairly represented. Here are two quotes, which I greatly admire.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus Epistle to Galatians

I look upon all creatures equally; none are less dear to me and none more dear. -- Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita

May you have a prosperous time on Wikipedia and in your real life! GizzaChat © 00:58, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hi, need some help on Anti-Brahmanism page?

I've tried before to get it more neutral, tried different things, like you, at one point added the [citation needed] markers, but to no avail. These people will revert anything that asks for support for their POV. I have basically given up on it, but if you're still interested you can put some such [citation needed] markers back in, and I will assist to keep them there. Problem is these people are Wiki lawyers too, so gotta be careful. Gschadow 03:23, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Response to your advice

Hi, thank you so much for your good advice. You mentioned to draw in administrators, but with my experience last time I felt like an idiot. These admins don't seem to see the game that is being played. Anyway, I decided to have a life instead of wasting it on Wikipedia fights. Just wanted to reach out to like minded people to see if we can help each other out. Thanks again. Gschadow 00:14, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Categories

When you add categories to articles, please pipe them properly (copy the categories already there). --Mel Etitis (Talk) 17:24, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Don't worry — none of us knows everything, even after years here. The best thing to do is to copy what you see others doing, as well as to read documents like WIkipedia:Categories. "Piping" an ordinary internal link is to use the "|" symbol to change what the reader sees:
  • [[User:Mel Etitis|elephant]] is seen as elephant.
Piping a category does something different: it changes the alphabetical order in which the article appears at the category page. For example, I think that you've added Category:People from Kerala to Rahul Easwar; his name will appear at the category page under "R", because that's the first letter of the article. It should, of course, be under "E" — so you pipe the category: Easwar, Rahul.
By the way, also:

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

Happy editing! --Mel Etitis (Talk) 20:33, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Checkuser procedure

Please take the time to read the instructions at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser. I am delisting the case you filled, the information you provided are not enough to perform a Checkuser. -- lucasbfr talk 18:00, 4 April 2007 (UTC), Checkuser clerk.

Read the page I linked, the step by step procedure is there. Also see the other cases under the same name to see how a request is made. Keep in mind that you need solid arguments to fill a case or it will most likely be rejected. -- lucasbfr talk 16:07, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
