Katydids was founded by vocalist Susie Hug and guitarist Adam Seymour, adding Dan James on guitar, David Hunter on bass, and Shane Young on drums in the late 1980s. After two unsuccessful albums, Reprise dropped the band and they broke up.

After a long hiatus from releasing her own material, Susie Hug's embarked on a solo career, having released two EPs and an album, and her husband Adam Seymour has been playing with The Pretenders since shortly after Katydids broke up.
