Katie Vick
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In professional wrestling, Katie Vick was a fictional character created by Brian Gewirtz, who served as the basis for a storyline in World Wrestling Entertainment in 2002. The storyline is cited by many fans as being one of the most tasteless in pro wrestling history.
The storyline was part of a feud between face, Kane and then heel, Triple H.
According to the storyline, Triple H came forward with information about an unrequited relationship Kane had with a young woman named Katie Vick. Shortly after Katie refused to pursue the relationship, she died in a car accident. Kane, who was the driver, then allegedly raped her corpse.
Triple H later made good on threats to show footage of Kane completing his "crimes." However, the footage clearly showed Triple H (dressed as Kane) simulating necrophilia with a female mannequin in a coffin but the skit was cut when Triple H prepares to simulate. It was mentioned by Jerry Lawler that the remaining footage had Triple H entering the coffin then closing it and began shaking the coffin. Triple H later brought the mannequin out to the ring and cut a promo with it, suggesting that "Katie Vick" was sexually promiscuous.
Numerous TV viewers, already disgusted with the storyline, were outraged at what they saw. It wasn't long before the WWE Creative Team was forced to end the story.
Another problem fans saw in the storyline was that they believe it retconned Kane's original backstory, as it was inconsistent with his original story that Kane was badly burned and was in hiding until 1997 when he surfaced to face off against his (storyline) brother The Undertaker.
She also played a large role in the novel Journey into Darkness, but the necrophilia part was not mentioned.
On the 2006 "McMahon" DVD, the angle was discussed with Triple H, The Rock, and Linda and Stephanie McMahon, all saying how horrible it was as a concept and a broadcast, while Vince McMahon still said he thought it was funny. Although she claims it was horrible, the gimmick was conceived and written mainly by Stephanie McMahon, and her husband, Triple H, became part of the gimmick to help promote Stephanie's work.
