Kate Schmidt

Kate Schmidt, a native of California and a graduate of UCLA, is a former American Record Holder and two-time (1972, 1976) Olympic Bronze Medalist in the javelin throw. From 1972-77, she tallied seven national titles. The last of Schmidt's nine American records still stands - a 227' 5" throw set in Furth, Germany - which was also a world record at the time. During her years dominating the event, Schmidt raised performance expectations in the women's javelin, shattering the previous American record of 198'8". Kate is a member of the Thrower's Hall of Fame and the throws coach for Occidental College in Northern Los Angeles.
