Kate Murray is the Supervisor of the Town of Hempstead, New York. A Republican, she previously served as a member of the New York State Assembly and then as Hempstead town clerk. A lawyer, Murray was considered a potential candidate for lieutenant governor in 2006. She was not selected by either of the gubernatorial candidates, former Assembly Minority Leader John Faso and former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld. Faso choose Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef as his running mate and Weld choose New York Secretary of State Christopher Jacobs of Buffalo. Weld and Jacobs would later withdraw from the race for the Republican nomination, leaving Faso and Vanderhoef as the party's ticket against Attorney General Eliot Spitzer and Senate Minority Leader David Paterson.
