The Kassam pass begins at the end of the Markham Valley and completes at the Yonki Dam. It rises from almost sea level to approx 5000 feet in approximately 10 km. The pass was originally constructed by the "Department of District Services and Native Affairs" under the guidance of Rupert Roelof Haviland in the early 1950s.
