So... does anyone know if Dr Karl got his world record? I've briefly tried looking for information about it, but was unable to find any. - James Foster 15:51, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

World record of what exactly? -- Chuq 12:09, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
I think he's referring to Dr Karl's attempt at the World Record for the Most Books Consecutively Signed by the Author, for the release of his new book. Apparently he didn't break the world record, but he did manage to break the Australian record. - record details 59.167.73.24 17:01, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Qualifications

Apparently Dr. Karl has an impressive list of qualifications as long as your arm. Anybody know what they are, please add them? --Commking 05:12, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

This mentions some of them, but not really any detailed info. - James Foster 21:57, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Oh, and I know he has also worked as a cab driver. This, along with other qualifications are also mentioned in the Andrew Denton interview that is linked to on the main page. - James Foster 22:02, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

If anyone recalls his early radio programs, back when he used to thank the tax payers for putting him through university (back when university was free) his actual qualification gained I believe was in dental medicine and surgery as it was significantly shorter a course to earn the title 'doctor' to give credence to his science commentaries. If anyone can shed any light for or against this it would be appreciated as it is a common rebuff in the academic world the second this gentlemens name is mentioned. Jachin 22:29, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Actually if you listen to his radio shows you'll notice he calls co-hosts and callers "Dr. (name)" to confirm that in terms of having a PhD he's as much a doctor as anyone else. Confusing Manifestation 09:48, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Most of Dr Karl's qualifications are listed in little mini biography things which I'm not sure if it stands up to wiki's standards. There's an audio grab here of Dr Karl getting his foot in the door of Triple J where he mentions about being a scientist, engineer and also just becoming a medical doctor.
The Andrew Denton interview and this csiro webpage make mention of him being a medical doctor but again I'm not sure that it stands up to wiki's standards for Wikipedia:Verifiability. Can someone with more experience point me in the right direction? 59.167.73.129 10:24, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Typo: "He was obtained his degrees..." I would change this, but does anyone know if all his conferred degrees are from UNSW? 203.45.115.94 13:21, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

  • Regarding his degrees, he says "At 17 I received a scholarship to university and in 1967 achieved a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematics at the University of NSW. Over the next decade I also received Masters degrees in Astrophysics and Biomedical Engineering. By 1986 I had completed bachelor degrees in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Sydney." [1]. His Master of Biomedical Engineering thesis from 1981 is in the UNSW library, and the University of Sydney lists him as an alumni for his MBBS in 1987 - Gobeirne 20:48, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
