Karr- is a Mediterranean linguistic root meaning 'oak'.
It explains the following words:
- Latin cerrus; Calabrese carrigliu[1]
- Iberic carballo 'pedunculate oak'; arte, karraska 'holm oak',
- French garrigue (from Oc garric 'kermes oak'; Limousin jarri 'oak')
- Berber akarruš,
- Slovenian hrast.
This root is a priori distinct from the root kʰar 'stone'.
