[edit] History
Formed in 1998, Karnivool have since released several singles and two EPs, and most recently their debut album Themata. Notable performances include playing at the Big Day Out Festival in Perth twice, as well as performing at the Rock-It Festival. They toured with Cog shortly after the release of Themata and since have toured Australia extensively on their own headline tours.
On August 23, 2006, it was announced that Karnivool had signed a licensing deal with prominent American indie label, Bieler Bros. Records. Themata will be released in North America, Japan and the UK on April 10, 2007.
In an interview with X-Press Magazine, Karnivool guitarist Andrew Goddard has stated that the upcoming album will be a huge step up from Themata. He also says that the writing process of the new record has been more of a a collaborative group effort by the band than previous works, and that they are going to go into the studio with a new recording strategy: that is, trying to focus less on the minute details, and put together a more natural sounding album. The album is expected to be released in Australia sometime in 2007.
At the 2007 WAMi Awards Karnivool won five WAMingtons for 'Most Popular Act', 'Most Popular Live Act', Best Male Vocalist' (Ian Kenny), 'Best Guitarist' (Andrew Goddard) and 'Best Hard Rock Act.
In 2007 Karnivool also achieved an entry into Triple J's Hottest 100 for 2006 with "Roquefort" reaching #45, bettering "Themata", which reached #97 in the previous year's Hottest 100 for 2005.
