Karnack is an unincorporated, rural community located in northeastern Harrison County near Caddo Lake in East Texas, USA. As of the 2000 census, it had a total population of 775.

The town is named after Karnak, Egypt (near modern-day Luxor). It was thought that the community's alignment with the city of Port Caddo was relative to that of Karnack and Thebes. The town is the birth place and location of the childhood home of First Lady Lady Bird Johnson. It is also the home of the Longhorn Army Ammunition Plant.

[edit] Hauntings

In Karnack, there was a considerably large amount of hauntings located in Lady Bird Johnson's birthplace (commonly known as "The Brick House"). The current owner, Jerry E. Jones Sr. was the first to report the hauntings when he was a child in the 1940's. The hauntings supposedly started again when his son, Jett Jones, was 4 years old in 1972. One day, Jett was coming home from preschool when he saw a rather pale woman in the hallway of his house. Jett asked who she was and she said she was Eunice Andrews. Jett, having trouble pronouncing her name, called her Oonie and the name stuck. Through the years, Jett grew up with Eunice's presence in an upstairs bedroom. Jett used to bring up a glass of Kool-Aid up to the bedroom every night and not drink it. The next morning, the Kool-Aid would be gone. Jett found this to his entertainment. A couple of years later, Jett got severely injured in a car accident. His parents rushed him to the hospital. The hospital treated him and told him to rest at home. Jett demanded to rest in Oonie's room. Oonie appeared before Jett by his bedside. Teardrops rolled down her face and she touched his arm. "As long as your name is Jett Jones and you live in this house, you will never die," said Oonie. Jett stated that this was the first time Oonie ever showed emotion or physically made contact with him. He also stated her hand was as cold as a bag of ice. After a while, Jett finally recovered not seeing Oonie once. Jett never saw Oonie again.
