Karl Mullen

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl Mullen was an Irish Rugby Union player who captained the Irish rugby team and captained the British and Irish Lions on their 1950 tour to Australia and New Zealand.

Mullen was educated at Belvedere College, Dublin. He played as hooker, winning 25 caps[1] during the 1940s and 1950s. In 1948 he captained the Irish team to their only Grand Slam in the Five Nations Championship (as it then was).

He was selected to captain the 1950 Lions Tour to Australia and New Zealand, during which the Lions lost the Test series against the All Blacks 3-0, with one game drawn.[2]
