Many Manchester United fans were amazed with Karel's great skill they even compared him to some of the biggest names in Czech Football. He played one season there, but due to the rising star of David Beckham, Karel left for another giant SL Benfica.
[edit] SL Benfica success
At SL Benfica Poborský was at his best form along side João Vieira Pinto,he became an instant hit and a fan favourite.
[edit] The Poborský-lob
Poborský's name is often attached to his performance in Euro 96, where during a quarter-final match against Portugal, during a Czech attack, he cold-headedly chipped the ball and lobbed it over the advancing Vítor Baía, not entirely unlike one of his predecessors, Antonín Panenka. The goal became a trademark shot for Poborský, and shot-style soon began to be attributed to him.
Another one of Poborský's lob-shots was against FC Porto while he was at SL Benfica. At the time 120,000 fans roared on when Benfica equalized against FC Porto.
