Karbala province (Arabic: كربلاء) is a province in the nation of Iraq. The capital is the city of Karbala, a holy city for Shi'ite Muslims; it houses the shrine of Imam Hussein (AS), a heavily revered figure in Shi'ite Islam. Shi'ite Muslim pilgrims from Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan flood into the city to visit the shrine.
