Kara Saun

Kara Saun, née Saunders, (born 1967) is a fashion designer who participated in the Bravo reality show, Project Runway.

Saun dreamed about becoming a designer since she was a small girl. In 1988, she graduated from Rutgers University, after which she became involved with the Air Force. Saun says that she "has" no city in particular because of her travel with the Air Force. In 1994, however, she moved to New York City, in search of better opportunities in the fashion designing world.

Saun later moved to Hollywood, California, where she made many celebrity contacts; she was chosen by Queen Latifah to design Latifah's dress for the 2000 Oscars.

Despite her many contacts in the entertainment world, Saun went mostly unnoticed until she was chosen to participate on the first season of the reality show Project Runway, which debuted in the United States on December 1, 2004. On the show, Saun described her designs as rock-star like.

As did most of her fellow contestants, Saun had an ongoing feud with show participant, Wendy Pepper. The two contestants never got along well, despite Saun's having given Wendy a makeover before an elimination round in an early episode.

For the final competition of Project Runway at New York's 2005 Olympus Fashion Week, Saun inappropriately accepted a gift of expensive designer shoes for her models. The show's producers allowed her models to use the shoes, but the judges were told not to include the shoes in assessing her collection. Although she impressed the show's judges, Saun did not win, coming in second place to Jay McCarroll.

In 2005, Saun became costume designer for the UPN sitcom Eve as well as for the The WB series What I Like About You, starring Amanda Bynes and Jennie Garth. Saun created gold dresses for an America's Next Top Model campaign, and designed for Chilli and T-Boz's UPN show R U the Girl. Kara Saun was also on the Style Network's show How Do I Look? as a guest stylist in the episode Emelia Stuart.
